Nigerian musician Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has revealed plans to get a tribal mark when he turns 50.
The 45-year-old made the disclosure in a video broadcast on his TikTok page, saying he intends to honour his father, who bears the same mark.
“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see,” he stated.
9ice, who hails from Ogbomosho, is celebrated for his powerful use of the Yoruba language in music, his proverbial lyrics, and unique style of delivery. He gained prominence with the 2008 hit track Gongo Aso and has since released numerous albums and singles.
In an August 2025 interview with Nancy Isime, 9ice shared that he is a traditional worshiper. He recounted being referred to an Ifa priest after suffering a “spiritual attack” that caused him to vomit blood for six months.
The singer said that following his healing, he regretted not embracing traditional practices sooner, further explaining his deep respect for Yoruba culture and spiritual traditions.
