Orile Agege LCDA Celebrates Cultural Heritage, Innovation

The Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Tuesday hosted a colourful event tagged “Culture Meets Innovation: Uniting Through Synergy,” bringing together residents, creatives, and entrepreneurs to celebrate the fusion of tradition and technology.
The event, described as a milestone in the council’s history, highlighted the importance of preserving cultural identity while embracing modern development.
In his address, the council chairman said the initiative represents a vision of balance between heritage and innovation.
“Our past and our future can coexist in harmony with progress and modern development,” he said. “As the Yorùbá say, ‘Agbájọ́ ọwọ́ la fi ń so yà’ — it is with joined hands that we weave the mat. This teaches us that culture and technology must work hand in hand to build the future we desire.”
He noted that Orile Agege is home to talented youths and creative entrepreneurs, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to supporting them through opportunities in art, tourism, culture, fashion, and technology.
“This exposition serves as a bridge between heritage and innovation — connecting the wisdom of our elders with the creativity of our younger generation,” he added.
The chairman emphasised the role of technology in promoting local crafts, documenting festivals, marketing tourism sites, and preserving language and traditions. According to him, combining culture with innovation creates pathways for job creation, education, and sustainable development.
He commended the partners and organisers of the event for their dedication, saying their efforts demonstrate the power of unity and shared purpose.
Addressing the youth, he urged them to continue dreaming and innovating while remaining rooted in their cultural identity.
“Your ideas are powerful. Keep innovating and be proud of your roots. The future belongs to those who honour their heritage while embracing change,” he said.
The event concluded with a renewed call to position Orile Agege not only as a community rich in culture but also as an emerging hub of innovation and progress.
