Eti-Osa Local Government Chairman, Omo’ba Adeola Alimot Adetoro, has launched a project to provide durable wooden benches for Maiyegun Primary School—tackling a challenge that has hampered learning for years.

The initiative is part of a wider drive to elevate education standards and create classrooms where pupils can learn without distraction or discomfort. For too long, many children in the community have had to squeeze onto rickety furniture or even sit on the floor, a reality that undermined both concentration and self-esteem.

“Basic infrastructure like benches and desks is not a luxury—it’s the foundation for quality learning,” Adetoro said, emphasizing that a child’s physical comfort directly impacts engagement and academic performance. “The children we teach today will be tomorrow’s leaders, and they deserve every tool to excel.”

Parents and teachers welcomed the move, viewing it as proof that local authorities are serious about investing in education rather than offering short-term fixes. Educational researchers have long highlighted that proper classroom furniture improves posture, focus, and participation—key factors in boosting outcomes.

This upgrade also aligns with Lagos State’s broader campaign to refurbish schools, supply modern furniture, and expand classroom blocks across local government areas. By focusing on something as fundamental as benches, Eti-Osa is signaling that real educational reform begins with meeting the most basic needs of its youngest learners.

The new benches are expected to be delivered and installed in the coming weeks, setting the stage for a more engaging and dignified learning experience at Maiyegun Primary School.
