A Lagos resident, Andre Abah, has been arrested over contravention of the state’s environmental laws through Indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Abah was arrested by officers of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, while commiting the offence on Lekki Expressway.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated on Monday that the officers of the state’s agency apprehended the offender while on routine surveillance of the area.
Wahab condemned Abah’s act stating that the state will continue to arrest and prosecute violators of the state’s laws as part of it’s targets to further enforce environmental regulations in the area.
“Andre Abah was arrested this morning by the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps patrol at Lekki Expressway for dumping refuse in the drainage,” the Commissioner said.
“Dumping waste into drainages is a serious environmental offense in Lagos State, contributing to blockages, flooding, and the spread of diseases.”
