Tinubu Visits Dangote Refinery to Launch Second Phase of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday visited the Dangote Refinery in Lagos to flag off the second phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
The coastal road project, a flagship infrastructure initiative of the Tinubu administration, is expected to connect several coastal states, boost economic activities, and improve transportation along Nigeria’s southern corridor.
The President’s visit to the refinery comes as part of a broader inspection of key industrial and infrastructural developments across Lagos State. Officials say the second phase of the project will extend beyond the initial corridor, linking industrial hubs and enhancing access to major ports and energy facilities.
While at the refinery, President Tinubu was received by industrialist Aliko Dangote, whose multi-billion-dollar refinery complex is one of the largest in Africa and a central pillar of Nigeria’s plan to achieve fuel self-sufficiency.
During the launch, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to fast-tracking critical infrastructure across the country, promising that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would be delivered in phases to ensure steady progress.
The first phase of the 700km coastal road project began in 2024 and has sparked debate over cost, land displacement, and environmental concerns. The Federal Government has defended the project, citing its long-term economic benefits.
