Farmer Remanded Over Drug Peddling

A farmer has been remanded in prison for indulging in drug trafficking.

The accused, Bashir Abdullahi, 20, was held following the order of Justice Ayokunle Faji at the Federal High Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Abdullahi was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for  unlawfully trafficking 102grams of cannabis sativa.

The Prosecutor, Aondofa Korinjo, reviewed the facts of the case through an NDLEA operative, Peter Ereche.

Korinjo stated that the offender committed the offence on September 29 at Zango area of Seme in Badagry, Lagos.

According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.

The Prosecutor also tendered several evidences at the court which included confessional statement by the convict, test analysis, a request for scientific aid form and a transparent pouch, among others.

The evidences were all admitted and marked as exhibits.

Korinjo then urged the court to proceed and convict the defendant based on his plea and the evidences adduced by the prosecution.

The Defence Counsel, led by Charles Okungbowa, urged the court to tamper justice with mercy on the convict.

The Counsel told the court that the convict is a farmer and first time offender who had promised to return to his homeland to continue his farming business.

Justice Faji adjourned the case till November 18 for sentencing.
