Security Guards Plead Guilty To Theft, Get 90 Months Jail Sentence

Three security guards have been jailed for stealing properties worth N1,500,000 in Ikeja, Lagos.

The convicts: Samuel Umar, Monday Phillibus and Sand Yiller, all of age 23, were remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Friday.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, the trio, residents in Ikeja were on trial for conspiracy and theft having stolen their employer’s inverter batteries worth N1.5m on November 11, 2023, at Isaac John Street, Ikeja G.R.A, where the company is situated.

John said that the gang fled after the act. However, one Nelson Ogunlana, petitioner and owner of the firm, reported the theft act to the police. The convicts were later arrested at their hideout.

The offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

At the Ikeja Magistrates Court, Magistrate Oluwatosin Fagbohun, sentenced the convicts to 30 months each in the correctional centre without an option of a fine. Fagbohun said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
