Two Women Arraigned In Court For Theft, Assault

Two women have been arraigned at Ikeja Magistates’ Court for allegely fighting each other and causing breach of peace in Ikeja Lagos.
The duo, Onadipe Remilekun 34, and Lynda Adewumi 36, got into a heavy altercation, the former, charged with intent to commit felony, the other arrainged for assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 16 at about 3:30 p.m. at Ojulomo Imoshe Street, Anifowoshe, Ikeja, Lagos. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Iberedem alleged that Remilekun entered into the residence of one Chikoke Maduka and Egwuekwe Precious to steal but was caught in the act.
The prosecutor continued saying that said the second defendant, Adewumi, who lives in the same compound, took matters into her own hands and beat up Remilekun.
Iberedem said that Adewunmi commited assault by putting pepper into her private parts and other parts of Remilekun’s body to such a degree to cause her discomfort.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 170(2) which is punishable under Sections 172 and 308(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 172 states that an offender is liable to one year imprisonment while Section 308(1) is liable to imprisonment for five years for anyone found guilty.
The Magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum and thereafter adjourned the case until May 15.
