The Chairman of Surulere LG, Hon. Yusuf Bamidele has renewed his promise of empowerment for the youths and women in the council area, emphasising that his administration will continue to empower the residents.
He said this during the celebration of his two years in office as he listed the projects he has been able to execute in the last two years.
He disclosed that his administration had to improve the local government IGR when he assumed office by doubling it to meet up with other pressing issues before the local government.
“When we came in onboard, we increased the Internally Generated Revenue from N100 million naira to about N350 million naira annually so that we could meet some of our obligations and we had to provide some incentives to the revenue staff by offering them five percent of what they can get every month to motivate them,” he said.
He added: “We renovated the Surulere LG because since it has been constructed years ago, it has never been upgraded or renovated and we took it upon ourselves to renovate the local government to World class standard that we will be proud of.
“We distributed deep freezers, sewing machines, industrial machines, grinding machines and so many other things which includes cash beneficiaries to the people of Surulere LG so that they can be independent and can feed their families.
“We will ensure the empowerment program will be a monthly event so that plenty of people can benefit from it.”
He stated that the beneficiaries applied for the category of empowerment programme that suited them online and they were chosen randomly.
