The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in collaboration with the Ijede General Hospital, observed the 2023 World Blood Donor Day last week.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya in his address informed that the event is done globally to sensitise people about the need for and also the benefits of blood donation.

The event also provided an avenue for individuals to donate blood.

He also informed people that there is a need to go beyond securing blood in our blood banks.

“We need to improve on blood collection, storage, and distribution at our various blood banks across the country,” he said.

Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor suggested the need for post-donation analysis to enable evaluation of the total number of screened persons, those who were eligible to donate blood and those who were not eligible.

This will further provide an avenue to counsel those who are not qualified and also help them to improve their health to be able to donate in the future.

Prof. Odusanya encouraged the Ijede General Hospital to strengthen its relationship with the university to achieve more.
