The Executive Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Hon. Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye has received glowing commendations from two principal officers of the Lagos State Government over refuse disposal in the council area.
The commendation came from the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Muslim Oloruntele Folami and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) Hon. Abdulrasheed Shabi who both expressed satisfaction over the way and manner the local council boss was able to mobilize his personnel to respond promptly and effectively to the refuse crisis that engulfed the state in recent time.
The commissioner who led the ministry’s team to Isolo LCDA for a sensitization meeting with marketers in the council area commended Olaleye for rising up to the occasion in the face of the refuse crisis to promote a cleaner and healthier environment in his council area.
This commendation was also restated by the Special Adviser on CLI, Hon. Abdulrasheed Shabi, who attested to Olaleye’s effort towards promptly evacuation of heaps of refuse at major streets in the council.
“I can attest to Shammeh’s effort at promoting a good cleaner and healthier environment. I was very much impressed when I saw trucks evacuating refuse along Ago Palace Way on Sunday. That shows he and his team are on top of the job. You have done well but we expect more from you because promotion of a cleaner and healthier environment is a continuous exercise,” he said.
Shabi, the former Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, in his keynote address to the gathering, reminded the marketers of the governor’s commitment to promote cleaner and healthier environment in the various markets across Lagos state.
According to him, this can only be done if marketers keep their markets clean and adhere strictly to the state health and environmental laws, reminding them of the governor’s stern warning to seal up any filthy market in the state.
He however advised Olaleye to engage youths to man strategic refuse dumps to stop indiscriminate and illegal refuse dumps in the council area.
He restated the governor’s commitment to ridding the state of cart-pushers whom he partly blamed for dumping refuse along the road and medians. He noted that the prevalence of LASSA fever was traceable to mouse and rats feeding and breeding on unbagged refuse bins.
He added, “This is why we are appealing to you to bag your waste properly through the use of the waste bags. Once these rats feed on your waste, they transfer germs and bacteria to your uncovered foods and this may lead to LASSA fever which results to death if not quickly diagonised and treated.”
