Cleric arrested over N0.5m fraud, sex abuse

Babatunde Samuel, 26, has been nabbed by the police for siphoning a sum of N500,000 while also engaging in a false sex deliverance with a woman in Ejigbo.

Echonews learnt that the culprit, who was initially into the business of selling of musical CDs, prayed for the victim who pleaded anonymity, took her to his place and deceived her with fake prophecies of her potential death and her family.

He told her that he would need to deliver her to avert untimely death.

The victim, who was caught with fear, requested for possible ways to avert the calamity.

In response, Samuel told her that she would undergo spiritual cleansing by having a month long sexual intercourse with him in addition to a life goat and the payment of N500000 which she did.

The saga took a new twist as Samuel began to make a continued monetary and sexual request after the agreed terms which left the victim with no option than to narrate her ordeal to her sister who has been unknowingly footing the bills paid to Samuel.

The two planned to get police at Area ‘M’, Mushin involved and cunningly made reservation with Samuel for more money and sexual activity.

They both agreed to meet at Jofolo Street, Iyana Ipaja and as soon as the discussion started, the police came in and got Samuel arrested.

He was charged before Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, but pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Adeyemi Ajayi, granted Samuel N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The court also ordered that the sureties deposit another N100,000 into Court Registrar’s account.

He was remanded in prison custody, pending when he would be able to perfect his bail condition, and the matter was adjourned till March 26.
