The Lagos State University is seeking the support of the Lagos State House of Assembly in the pursuit of its resource verification and accreditation of new and existing programmesin the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor IbiyemiOlatunji-Bello called for this support when the house committee on education visited the varsity on oversight function.
She commended the house of assembly for promptly approving the budget for the institution as she sought more cooperation to enable her to succeed in the accreditation of more programmes.
Led by its chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Ajani Owolabi, the team commended the vice chancellor and promised to give its maximum support to the development of the university.
Earlier in their interaction at the vice chancellor’s office, professor Olatunji+Bello appreciated the Committee for its constant support to the University, especially with regard to the timely approval of her budgets.
She assured the Chairman that the University’s books and facilities are open for the Committee’s assessment and went further to seek its support for the University in her pursuit of the resource verification and subsequent accreditation of new and existing programmes.
She reiterated her vision to make LASU the best University in West Africa and listed her administrationr’s six strategic goals through which, she said, the administration measures her performance.
The Chairman, in his response, said the Committee’s aim is to assist institutions under its purview to achieve their visions and that is the reason for visiting the campus.” He praised the Vice Chancellor for her passion for the greatness of the University. He added thus “…Having worked closely with you for a while,
I can attest to your passion for this university.”
The team eventually left on a physical assessment visit to the facilities in the University including offices in the BabatundeRaji Fashola Senate Building, the Students’ hostels under construction and the Information, Communication Technology (ICT) Complex.
Overall, the Chairman gave a thumbs up to the University for the progress it has made in the last two years and assured that the House Committee on Education would continue to support the institution.
It is expected that the visit will yield positive results for the University in the months ahead.
