Govt, DPO order commercial transporters to vacate Jakande Gate

As an effort to proffer solution to the congestion of  Jakande Gate caused by commercial transporters, the authority of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Divisional Police of Officer (DPO) of Ejigbo Police Station, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi have ordered the transporters to stay off the place to ease residents movement.

 

The residents of Low Cost Estate, Jakande, Ejigbo have been complaining that the transporters always blocked the estate entrance, obstructing their movement to and fro at the gate.

 

In an engagement with the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Motorcycle Operators’ Association of Lagos State (MOALS) and Tricycle Operators and Owners Association of Nigeria (TOOAN), the police boss said she received a distress call from the office of the Commissioner of Police (CP), mandating her to clear that axis for easy access of vehicles and pedestrians.

She noted that the activities of the transporters were causing menace within the axis of Jakande Gate and its environs.

 

The council Chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello (Obe) said the council would put in place a mesh wire fence along the walkway to prevent roadside hawkers  from obstructing the vehicular movements.

 

He further promised to build kerb to curb the illegal U-turn by the drivers and the okada riders into Jakande estate.

During a meeting involving the council management, the police, the LASTMA personnel and the leaders of NURTW, MOALS and TOOAN to agree on a lasting solution to the complaints of the populace, Comr. Joseph Ogundiran (Orobo), who represented MOALS (okada riders), said the association would compel its members  plying in and out of Jakande Estate to abide by the laid down rules, promising that none of its members would go against the traffic laws.

 

Comr. Olayemi Kazeem, who is in charge of (Korope) mini bus, accepted the option given by the DPO and the council authority to make a stand with chain barricades to guide the bus from blocking the free flow of traffic and ensure buses move into church street before their passengers disembark.

 

The DPO urged the leader of TOOAN, Taofeek Alaka (Eleru), to take full control of his members driving tricycles (marwa) and make sure they make use of the space allotted to them.

 

The leader of market men and women on furniture Avenue Lane, Mr. Olatunbosun Owonikoko, was charged by the Supervisor for Environment, Olufemi Ibine Bambam, to make sure his people stay off the road and keep the lane apportioned  to them to avoid being removed from the venue if they don’t abide by the law.
