Igbogbo Youth Coalition, was on Saturday called on the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to come to their rescue on the state of deplorable roads and other infrastructure in Igbogbo kingdom, adding that Bola Ahmed Tinubu/ Igbe road has long overdue for completion.

While addressing journalists at a press conference held at Adeboruwa Palace Igbogbo, the President of the group, Mr. Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, recalled the challenges confronting the community for many years, ranging from the total collapse of access and inner roads in the community, among others.

“We have been making frantic efforts to get the attention of our dear state government through numerous correspondence to the appropriate quarters on the state of infrastructure in Igbogbo kingdom most specifically on some abandoned infrastructure across the Igbogbo and her environs (Bayeku, Igbe, Laara, Ofin, Oreta, Agunfoye, Selewu, Oreyo, Olu-Odo, Lajo, Ewu-Ebiye, Ibeshe, Ewu-Elepe, Ginti).

“To start with, the School, Lajo, Igbogbo, Anglican Primary School, Ofin, Igbogbo, UAMC, Eleja Primary School, Igbogbo, Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo, Local Government Primary School, Bayeku, Igbogbo; their buildings are eyesore. Some with tattered roof coverings, ceilings dropping, toilet facilities, and others are beneath the ground. Investment in education at the primary level becomes very pivotal in this global scope of learning.

“Government should erect modern school structures for primary schools in Igbogbo, and equip them with appropriate facilities, and good number of teachers to meet the UNICEF learners-to- teacher ratio standard. However, we acknowledge government efforts in primary education with the introduction of EKOEXCEL system. The system would be inefficient and ineffective if these challenges are not properly addressed by the government.

“Moreover, Lagos State Girls High School, Agunfoye, Igbogbo is bleeding due to unavailability of essential facilities for secondary education; facilities not provided are standard laboratories for academic purposes, playing ground. The school girls couldn’t write this year science practical exams because of the age long fossil approach to education by the relevant authority.

“Security in Igbogbo kingdom and environs deserves appropriate provisions such as well equipped police station, and proper collaboration with relevant bodies to further boost the state security development.

“It is highly deserving of this glorious kingdom an e-library to provide the entire LCDA access to the updated information for academic and research purposes. The kingdom is blessed with the most versatile, vibrant, reliable, and very resourceful community based students’ group (Igbogbo Students’ Union) that have been making strenuous efforts to put the community library (Igbogbo Reading Room) into proper shape – only a wicked one will appraise anyone on the present level of the only library that has been serving multiple communities for over 7 decades. This should be another call for emergency attention just like what was displayed during COVID-19 or even more! We have the updated information that acclaimed renovated library has been locked against its natural purposes,” Ogunmuyiwa explained.

He further urged the Governor to consider the real indigenes of Igbogbo who is accessible to the State Cabinet, noting that the community has many quality professionals. “Igbogbo is a great kingdom of exceptional indigenes who are well trained, experienced, and qualified to hold significant positions in the political setting of the state today. We have outstanding academics, medical professionals, legal practitioners, engineers, classified and seasoned educators; the list is endless. Your Excellency Sir, these quality individuals will bring better progressive ideas for your leadership. We, unreservedly, recommend them for appointments,” he opined.

Also, the Coalition asked for the safety of life and property during fire outbreaks, saying that is another key cause for their appeal. “We want Mr Governor to provide Igbogbo a fire service station for optimum response to any fire scenario that could happen later in life. Lagos State is a state of aquatic splendour. Apart from the use of water space for transportation, we want Mr Governor to harness this lofty resource for many developmental activities such as sporting activities, electricity generation, and many more – Bayeku, Oreta, and Ofin under Igbogbo kingdom have abundant body of water for these important areas of human endeavour. However, it is important to urge our amiable governor to keep up his administration giant stride on water transportation in the state,” Ogunmuyiwa added.

The Youth Chairman later enjoined the Governor to reciprocate the efforts of Igbogbo residents for him during the last election in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA. “We expended our intellect and effort to rigorously convince, admonish, and promise on your behalf. We won souls for you especially after the unimaginable outcome of the presidential election in Lagos State. Our people marched out enmass and gave you bulk votes – this kingdom delivered massively more than any LCDA in Ikorodu Division.

“It is not too much for a society, more so a supportive one, to enjoy meaningful governance it deserves as dividends of democracy and for her active progressive disposition. Alas, the disdainful treatment of Igbogbo Kingdom by your government is worrying,” he lamented.
