Will APC Retain Lagos in 2027? Sanwo-Olu Says Party Is Ready to Win

The big political question ahead of the 2027 elections is whether the All Progressives Congress (APC) can retain its dominance in Lagos State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu appears confident that the party will do exactly that, saying the APC is already putting structures in place to secure victory across the state.

Sanwo-Olu spoke on Monday, August 24, after visiting the party’s presidential and governorship campaign offices to assess preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the governor, the APC campaign committee has commenced strategic planning and is working on its plans for the elections.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is seeking re-election, the APC governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and other party candidates in Lagos were committed to the campaign.

“The campaign committee is fully in its element, mapping out the road ahead and sharpening our strategy,” Sanwo-Olu said.»

The governor said serious and structured preparations were already taking place behind the scenes, adding that he was encouraged by the commitment and enthusiasm among party members.

“I am encouraged by the energy and sense of purpose,” he said.»

Sanwo-Olu described the Lagos APC as “focused, aligned and ready to win across the board.”

The governor also said the party would continue to build on the state’s development efforts while advancing its political and governance agenda.

However, with the 2027 elections still ahead, the APC’s confidence will ultimately be tested at the polls as opposition parties work to challenge the party’s long-standing political dominance in Lagos.
