Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has revealed how a prior concert booking prevented him from meeting American rapper and business mogul Jay-Z at the 2019 premiere of The Lion King.
Mr Eazi disclosed this during a recent interview with BBC Focus on Africa, explaining that he received an invitation to the movie premiere after featuring on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album, which also had Jay-Z connected to the project.
The singer said he was excited about the possibility of meeting Jay-Z, whom he regards as a mentor in both music and entrepreneurship. However, he could not attend the premiere because he had already been booked to perform at a concert on the same date.
“I look up to Jay-Z in both music and entrepreneurship. I worked with Beyoncé on the Lion King music project. I was supposed to go to the movie premiere. Jay-Z was going to be there. But I was already paid to perform at a concert. So, I was like, ‘Okay, if I am meant to meet Jay-Z, it would happen another time’,” he said.
Mr Eazi added that he had not abandoned the hope of meeting the American music icon in the future.
Beyond music, the singer also spoke about his growing business interests across the continent, revealing that he is directly or indirectly involved in business activities in more than 20 African countries.
He said his current investment interests include sports, with a long-term vision for the sector.
“Right now, there are over 20 countries where I am directly or indirectly involved in business activities across Africa. Right now, we are investing in sports with a long-term goal,” he said.
