WAFCON 2026: Tabitha Chawinga Calls On God Against Falcons

Malawi captain, Tabitha Chawinga is excited to make her Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) debut appearance against Nigeria.
The Scorchers skipper made her debut for Malawi at the age of 15 in 2011 and she has scored 25 goals in 11 appearances for her national team.
Chawinga is elated to make her appearance at the WAFCON while describing it as a dream she has nurtured to reality.
She stated the team’s performances have led them to their present status to participate in the WAFCON.
“This was my dream. I was dreaming about playing for Africa one time. This is the time now. I feel good. I feel happy,” Chawinga was quoted by Ademola Sports.
“It’s not by chance, that is how we performed. We believe God is there for us. That’s why he sent us here.”
The 30 year old striker believes the draw which pitched them against the Super Falcons will bring out the best from the team.
Despite knowing the players that Nigeria will parade, she charged her teammates to compete with the Falcons known stars.
“When I saw the draw against Nigeria, of course I was happy because we need to face this challenge no matter what.
“They know many players from Nigeria they need to compete with them.”
Nigeria will clash against Malawi in their first game of the WAFCON 2026 at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat on Tuesday, July 28 by 9pm local time.
