WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Ready for Malawi Challenge, Targets Three Points – Rasheedat Ajibade

Nigeria captain, Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparedness ahead of their first outing at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) insisting that the team’s focus remains firmly on securing all three points.
Ajibade led Nigeria to win the record WAFCON title in Morocco last year while they chase an 11th crown.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ajibade said the squad is in high spirits and fully committed to achieving its objectives.
“The team spirit is high. Everyone is fully focused. We know why we’re here and we are ready to take things one step at a time. We’re 100% ready,” she said.
The forward emphasize that while good football is important, results remain the ultimate measure of success in tournament football.
“A good performance for the Super Falcons will be to win three points. That’s what matters in this tournament. Of course you want to play well tactically, but if you do all of that and don’t win, it doesn’t count for much here.”
She also acknowledged the unwavering support of Nigerian fans, describing their encouragement as a key factor behind the team’s recent success.
According to the skipper, the players have drawn inspiration from the passionate backing they have received both in the stadiums and across social media platforms.
“Our fans are always coming out in numbers. They’re always cheering us on the field and on social media. We see their support, we see their love. Their support was instrumental to the last victory we had.”
Ajibade urged supporters to continue rallying behind the team, saying their energy provides an added boost as the Falcons aim to maintain their high standards and represent Nigeria with pride.
“We want them to replicate the same energy, even double it because we need that energy to keep raising the standard and keep flying the flag of our nation high. Keep cheering us, keep supporting us, and keep praying for us. We’ll make them proud as always.”
The Falcons will square up against the Scorchers in their first WAFCON game on Tuesday, July 28 in Rabat.
