US Embassy To Suspend Routine Consular Services Today

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the closure of the US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos on Monday, September 7, 2026, to mark the American Labour Day holiday.

The diplomatic missions disclosed this in a notice outlining public holidays to be observed for the remainder of 2026.

According to the notice, both missions will be closed to the public on the designated date, while routine consular services, including visa processing, will not be available.

The closure is part of the holiday schedule observed by the US diplomatic missions in Nigeria, which includes both American and Nigerian public holidays.

The US Mission had earlier announced that routine visa services in Nigeria would be processed through the Consulate General in Lagos effective August 1, 2026.

The Labour Day holiday is observed in the United States annually on the first Monday of September to honour the contributions and achievements of American workers.

Normal consular operations are expected to resume after the public holiday.
