Another ethnic clash has been averted by the police following a disagreement between two persons that degenerated into clash of two ethnic groups overnight.

Witnesses said a commercial motorcyclist (okada) of Northern extraction had hit the chairman of the Tricycle Owners and Operators’ Association of Nigeria (TOOAN), Oke while driving against traffic at 11pm yesterday.

Oke reportedly challenged him for driving against traffic.

In reaction, the okada rider reportedly stabbed him.

Oke was rushed to a hospital immediately but died because of the injuries early this morning.

The news angered members of TOOAN who mobilised to avenge the death of the chairman.

The peaceful dawn of Ejigbo town was shattered this morning as both groups ran after each other in Iyana Ejigbo and the adjoining streets such as Apo-Esho.

An eye witness, who spoke to ECHONEWS, said out of arrogance, the Hausa Okada rider went to pick his knife, came back to the victim, stabbed him and ran away.

This was confirmed by the DPO of Ejigbo Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Akinsola Ogunwale who said he was at the scene to forestall the fracas between the Hausa and the Yoruba-dominated TOOAN members as they have started attacking Hausa persons believed to be associated with the man who stabbed their chairman.

The DPO said the victim died in the hospital because he had lost much blood.

When contacted, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said he has not been briefed about the issue.
