Teacher Faces Five-Count Charge Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of Students

A 32-year-old teacher, Ayodele Obinna Ademefun, has been arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Ikeja, over alleged sexual abuse involving four male students in the Oshodi area of Lagos.
Ademefun was arraigned before Magistrate M.O. Tanimola on a five-count charge bordering on alleged sexual harassment and sexual assault. The prosecution was led by ASP Lucky Ihehie.
According to the charge sheet in the case of Commissioner of Police vs Ayodele Obinna Ademefun, the alleged offences occurred sometime in September 2025 at No. 11, Ajagungbade Street, Mafoluku-Oshodi, Lagos, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
The prosecution alleged that Ademefun, who was a teacher at Great Oak College located at the address, engaged in sexual misconduct involving four male students aged between 13 and 17.
The alleged offences are said to contravene Sections 264 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, relating to sexual harassment and sexual assault by penetration.
Court documents indicated that the matter was reported to the police by parents of two of the alleged victims, who claimed that the school authorities were aware of the incident but failed to take appropriate action.
The complaint was initially lodged at Makinde Police Division, Oshodi, by Adamu Bubature and Blessing Punshak before the case was transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on May 25, 2026, for further investigation.
The Investigating Police Officer, W/Inspector Raimi Idowu of the Gender Section, reportedly told the court in a sworn affidavit supporting the remand application that the defendant had been arrested and made a statement to the police during the investigation.
The police subsequently asked the court to remand the defendant in custody pending the duplication and forwarding of the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
After considering the application and the nature of the allegations, Magistrate Tanimola ordered that Ademefun be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri Town, pending the DPP’s advice.
The magistrate also directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for further legal guidance and adjourned the matter for mention pending the outcome of the legal advice.
The case comes amid continuing concerns over child protection and safeguarding in schools, with child rights advocates calling for stronger measures to prevent abuse and ensure the safety of students.
Parents and guardians have also been encouraged to maintain open communication with children and promptly report suspected cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities.
As of the time of filing the report, Ademefun remained in custody at Kirikiri pending the DPP’s advice.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.
