A single mother of two, Mrs. Aderayo Adepoju, has cried for financial assistance from the public for her 10-year-old son who needs N24million to carry out a surgical operation for congenital defect abroad.

The boy, John Adeleke Nnorom Kamsy, suffers from a caudal vertebra regression syndrome which was explained by health experts to be a disruption that impairs the development of the lower half of the body.

The affected parts of his body, as explained, include the lower back and limbs and the genitourinary tract.

The disorder has made it difficult for Kamsy to feel some sensation from the spinal cord some of which include the sensation to pee and poo thus messing himself up unconsciously.

The mother, who is frustrated about the situation, explained how the challenge started to ECHONEWS.

“He is my second son going to be 11 years old on April 27, this year. I gave birth to him at Isolo General Hospital. He was still wearing the diaper till he was five years. But on a particular day, I went to his school when I was notified that he had messed up himself. I had to beat him that day but the proprietress cautioned and advised me to take him to LASUTH to know whether something was wrong somewhere.

“At LASUTH, we were told to run some tests. From the result, the doctor; a neurosurgeon, told us that his spinal cord is not totally and properly formed and that is why he could not feel sensation when he wants to pee or poo and that’s what we have been battling for the last 10 years. I buy diapers every two weeks. I can’t afford all these again, the pressure is much on me.

“When we spoke with a hospital abroad; Sick Kid Hospital, we were told that the surgery will cost us N24 million naira.

“He recently wrote common entrance and beat the cut off mark of Kings College with a score of 186 but he has to forfeit the admission and I looked for a school  closer for him due to the challenge. Most times when I ask him how he feels, he’ll tell me he feels bad but I kept on encouraging him that it could have been worse. We are appealing to everyone to save me and my son from this shame. Every contribution will go a long way in restoring my son’s health.”
