Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the state government’s full backing for the successful hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards scheduled for December 7 in Lagos.
The governor gave the assurance on Sunday while receiving a CAF delegation led by the Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly, Dr Christian Emeruwa, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
Sanwo-Olu pledged that the state government would prioritise critical arrangements, including security, logistics, branding and access to the event venue, to ensure a smooth and successful ceremony.
He described Lagos as a strategic destination for major international events, citing its status as a leading commercial, cultural, entertainment and technology hub on the African continent.
According to the governor, the state’s economic importance, diverse population and youthful energy position it to deliver a memorable experience for visiting dignitaries, football administrators and other international guests.
Sanwo-Olu also noted the state’s commitment to providing a welcoming environment for CAF officials and football stakeholders, noting that the awards would offer Lagos an opportunity to demonstrate its hospitality and organisational capacity to a global audience.
The 2026 CAF Awards will bring together leading figures in African football to celebrate outstanding achievements and recognise the players, coaches and other stakeholders who have distinguished themselves during the year.
Lagos’ hosting of the ceremony is also expected to place the state in the spotlight as it welcomes prominent personalities from across Africa and beyond for one of the continent’s major football events.
