Residents of Ifetedo have raised alarm over the rate at which insecurity keeps increasing as hoodlums persistently commit crimes in the community.
Apart from robbing people of their properties, they complained that the hoodlums also kill innocent residents.
According to them, most of the crimes are committed at night as unknown gunmen are reportedly invading the area.
The residents explained that motorcyclists are the most targets as robbers snatch their bikes at gun point.
One of the concerned residents who pleaded anonymity explained how a commercial motorcyclist was robbed and shot dead in the community recently.
According to him, the 20 years old Taofeek popularly known as ‘Taooo’ was attacked and shot on his chest around 5:45am on November 17, 2021 at Babatunde Oduse Street when he was going out to pick passengers.
He said the victim purchased the motorcycle two months before he was robbed and killed.
Our source also noted that a similar case was reported on the same street two weeks before the recent one, where the victim was shot on his neck after being robbed of his motorcycle.
He said such crime is also committed on Apoeso Street where residents are robbed and injured.
Though the community has local security guards, it was gathered that the hoodlums perpetrate the crimes after the guards close.
He complained that absence of street lights in the area aid the hoodlums in carrying out their heinous activities.
Noting that the issue is beyond community efforts, he appealed to the council chairman and other stakeholders to identify the black spots in the community and take action in time, saying many lives are being exposed to danger.
