Rainfall: LAWMA Arrests Meiran Resident Over Alleged Waste Disposal

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has arrested a resident of Meiran, Lagos State, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall.
The arrest was carried out during a joint enforcement operation involving LAWMA’s Enforcement Team, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, popularly known as KAI, and mobile police officers attached to the enforcement team.
The resident, identified as living at No. 13, Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, was arrested following a tip off received by the enforcement team.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed the development in a post on his official X account on Wednesday.
According to Gbadegesin, the team received information alleging that the resident was disposing of refuse into a drainage channel while rainfall was ongoing.
He said enforcement officers went to the location, where the suspect was apprehended and subsequently taken to the KAI headquarters for prosecution.
Gbadegesin said the action was part of efforts to curb indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly practices capable of blocking drainage channels and contributing to flooding.
He urged Lagos residents to desist from dumping waste in drainage channels and comply with the state’s environmental regulations.
