Protest Rocks Lagos as Nurses Lament New Verification Guidelines

Nurses in Nigeria, represented by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Lagos chapter, held a protest against the newly released verification certification guideline by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

They believed that the guideline was an attempt to restrict their career opportunities and called for the council to address issues such as nurses’ welfare, salary scale, staff shortages, and other rights.

Prior to the protest, nurses and midwives had expressed concerns about the deactivation of the NMCN verification portal since December 2023.

Over the past five years, more than 75,000 nurses and midwives had left the country in search of better opportunities.
