Project Iron Shield Begins in Alimosho, 10 Suspects Face Prosecution
Alimosho Local Government has recorded a major breakthrough in its environmental sanitation campaign following the arrest of 10 suspected environmental offenders during the maiden enforcement operation under Project Iron Shield.
The overnight operation, conducted on June 11, 2026, covered key locations across the council area, including the Egbeda Road Corridor, Shasha Axis and Dopemu Under Bridge.
According to the local government, the exercise was aimed at tackling indiscriminate refuse dumping, eliminating illegal dumpsites and strengthening environmental discipline among residents.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended while allegedly disposing of waste at unauthorised locations across the council area.
Authorities disclosed that the offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with existing environmental and public health laws, stressing that public spaces would no longer be tolerated as dumping grounds.
Project Iron Shield is a dedicated environmental enforcement initiative established to rid Alimosho of refuse heaps, dismantle illegal dumpsites and promote a cleaner and healthier environment.
The council also warned residents, property owners and commercial operators who have failed to pay statutory waste management charges that legal action would be taken against defaulters.
Speaking on the operation, the Head of the Task Force and Head of Legal Services, Mr. Taiwo Onayinka, described the exercise as a practical demonstration of the environmental renewal agenda of the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson.
“A clean environment is not built by speeches but by collective responsibility and firm enforcement. Where persuasion fails, the law must prevail. It is no longer business as usual for environmental offenders in Alimosho,” Onayinka said.
He explained that the Project Iron Shield team comprises armed personnel drawn from various government security agencies working alongside Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers of the council.
According to him, the team remains committed to maintaining environmental cleanliness, public order and sustainable sanitation practices across communities within the local government area.
The council reaffirmed that the enforcement exercise would be sustained until environmental sanitation becomes a defining feature of Alimosho, urging residents to embrace proper waste disposal practices and comply with environmental regulations.
Officials added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to safeguard public health, improve sanitation standards and create a cleaner, safer and more prosperous environment for residents.
