POWER WORKER ELECTROCUTED IN LAGOS, RESCUED ATOP HIGH-TENSION POLE
A power worker narrowly escaped death after he was electrocuted and left unconscious while working on an overhead high-tension line in Gbagada, Lagos State.
The technician was reportedly carrying out repair work on the electricity network when he suffered a severe electric shock. The impact left him unconscious and hanging from the utility structure, with his safety harness preventing him from falling to the ground.
A dramatic video from the scene shows a fellow technician, dressed in protective equipment and wearing a hard hat, climbing an extended red ladder to rescue the injured worker.
The rescuer reportedly battled to reach the unconscious man and carefully disentangle him from the high-tension lines while anxious residents gathered below, shouting instructions and praying for the victim’s safe recovery.
After a tense operation, the ground crew successfully brought the injured technician down from the pole.
He was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the dangers faced by electricity workers who operate around high-voltage infrastructure, particularly the need for strict adherence to electrical safety procedures and the use of appropriate protective equipment.
As of press time, the relevant electricity distribution authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, including the worker’s current condition and what caused the electrical discharge.
