The Member of the Federal House of Representatives in Oshodi Isolo Constituency I, Hon. Dr. Bashiru Dawodu has pledged to empower youths in the constituency, noting that unemployment was the major cause of the EndSARS crisis and other criminal activities.

According to him, the crucial thing to do now is to empower the youths to engage them in gainful jobs especially the vocational jobs to make them financial independent.

He noted that the rate of youth unrests in the community would be reduced if many of them are engaged in jobs where they can make money.

He disclosed that the first phase of the programme is meant to empower the youths who have skills but are unable to procure the needed equipment to function in their vocations.

He explained that the National Assembly is doing everything possible to make sure that the youths are in the forefront to implement the changes that will positively make impact in their lives.

Dawodu, who condemned the shooting of youths who protested against police brutality during the EndSARS protest, said the government could not allow the destruction of lives and prosperity to continue.

“The EndSARS protest started well as the youths agitated end to police brutality. We need to completely condemn the shooting of youths because it is not ideal in a sane society.”

He noted that the peaceful protest became bloody when some hoodlums hijacked it and destroyed government properties and Police stations as well as killing police officer, saying the innocent citizens have been affected by the action.

Emphasising that unemployment remains the major problem, Dawodu therefore appealed to the youths to always make their request known without violence.
