The police at Igando area of Lagos has re-arrested a suspect, Lukmon Ogunmuyiwa, who escaped from the police custody as the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, threatened to detain the officers on duty if they failed to re-apprehend the escapee.
The residents of Igando and the Police in the community are yet to come to terms following the earlier disappearance of a caught criminal suspect who was detained in the cell some weeks back.
It was garnered that the disappearance of the suspect, Lukmon Ogunmuyiwa escaped from the cell in Igando police station under the watch of police officers on duty, had resulted in disgruntlement by some of the residents who showed their dissatisfaction over the issue.
The residents claimed that the officers were drunk and fast asleep when Ogunmuyiwa broke lock keys in the cell and escaped.
It was gathered that the escape embarrassed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who ordered the officers to go after the suspect, and threatened to detain them if he was not apprehended. Fortunately for the police officials, Ogunmuyiwa was apprehended.
Echonews gathered that the 36 years old Ogunmuyiwa was arrested for stealing after the police had alleged that he conspired with others at large to commit the offence at Majeobaje Street, off Modina Road, Egan.
Ogunmuyiwa, who was on Monday charged before Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for his offence and unlawful escape from the police custody, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
He was therefore granted bail in the sum of N100,000 by the Presiding Magistrate, F.K. Layeni, while the matter was adjourned till February 21, 2018.
