Police investigate murder of man allegedly killed by police officer in Oshodi

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that it has commenced investigation into the murder of a rental service provider, Waliu Dauda, who was allegedly shot in Oshodi n Sunday night by a police officer.

It was reported that Dauda was allegedly killed by one of the police officers attached to one unidentified dignitary who attended a church function where the victim rendered his service.

The Coordinator of CDHR, Oshodi units, Comr. Akinbiyi Ridwan, who led some of his members to the scene, said: “Yesterday, Sunday 25th August, the men of Nigeria Police Force killed one innocent man at Bello Street Ladipo, Oshodi Lagos. The man killed was a chair rental provider who rented chairs/tables for a church at Bello street for a program in the church, the church invited high dignitaries who came with escort of policemen. The rental man went there to pack all his chairs and tables about 8pm and the dignitaries were about to leave.


“The police man took his gun and about to shoot it up to clear the road but he faced the man and shot him at is head and the man died instantly.

“The police officer must be brought to book, this is an injustice because injustice to one is an injustice to all.

“We are appealing to the IG of police to withdraw all security men guarding these dignitaries, we are all the same, this can’t happen oversea.”

Late Waliu Dauda was killed yesterday by yet to be identified police man at Bello Street of Ladipo area of Oshodi.

“CDHR Oshodi Unit is appealing to the area commander AREA F for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the killer police. It is highly barbaric.”

However, responding to the issue, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, simply wrote: “Investigation has since commenced. Justice will surely prevail.”
Meanwhile, in a statement this morning, the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, Hon. Bolaji Muse Ariyo said some arrests have been made concerning the murder of tge victim, saying the culprit would be brought to book.


He said: “It’s with heavy pain in my heart I received the shock news of gunshot that claimed a life in Ladipo due to a stray bullet as report confirmed.
I wish to state categorically that the men of the security are already on top of the situation as some arrests have been made to unravel the cause of the situation and bring the culprit(s) to book.

“Security has been beefed up in Ladipo, Shogunle and Oshodi environs to forestall any breakdown of law that may occur due to the incident that occurred.

“I implore all the residents of Oshodi particularly Ladipo and Shogunle where the incident occurred to be law abiding as the law will take its full cause for justice to take place.
“I commiserate with the bereaved family and Ladipo community on the loss and I pray God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
