IGBOGBO/BAIYEKU — More than 350 residents of Elepe Kingdom in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) have benefited from free medical services as the council continued its Free Optimal Wellness Outreach across the community.

The outreach, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Methodist Primary School, Elepe, was organised under the GLORY Agenda of the Executive Chairman of IBLCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, as part of efforts to make basic healthcare more accessible to residents.

For many residents who attended the programme, the initiative provided an opportunity to receive medical attention, conduct important health checks and obtain treatment without the financial burden often associated with accessing healthcare.

Free Medical Services for Residents

Qualified doctors and healthcare personnel were on hand to provide free medical consultations and treatment to residents who participated in the programme.

The outreach went beyond general consultations, with residents also receiving blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, Hepatitis B screening and eye examinations.

Residents who were identified as needing corrective eyewear were provided with free eyeglasses, while those requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities for advanced treatment.

Health education and wellness counselling were also provided, with medical personnel using the opportunity to encourage residents to adopt healthier lifestyles and take preventive healthcare more seriously.

Council Says Healthcare Must Reach the People

Declaring the programme open, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, welcomed residents and commended them for their impressive turnout.

The Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Qudus Oduntan, also addressed the gathering, recalling commitments previously made by Chairman Aroyewun to the people of Elepe.

He described the outreach as another demonstration of the administration’s determination to translate its promises into practical interventions that directly benefit residents.

Aroyewun Announces Road Rehabilitation

Speaking at the programme, Chairman Aroyewun thanked the people of Elepe for their continued support and confidence in his administration.

He also used the gathering to announce plans to rehabilitate Oba Ijaolu Road in collaboration with Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

The Chairman stressed that good infrastructure remained important to the development and general well-being of residents, noting that improving access roads would have a direct impact on movement, commerce and community life.

He also highlighted the reconstruction of the C5 Ward at the Elepe Health Care Centre as one of the administration’s notable interventions in the community.

Chairman Warns Against Drug Abuse

Beyond healthcare and infrastructure, Aroyewun used the occasion to caution residents, particularly young people, against drug abuse.

The Chairman warned that the use of hard drugs could have devastating and irreversible consequences for individuals, families and the wider society.

He urged residents to support efforts aimed at preventing substance abuse and protecting young people from the dangers associated with illicit drugs.

Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant

On security, the Chairman called on residents to remain vigilant and pay particular attention to uncompleted buildings within their neighbourhoods.

He urged members of the community to report suspicious movements and activities promptly to the appropriate security authorities.

The call, he said, was part of the collective responsibility required to maintain a safe environment for residents and businesses.

Residents Applaud Healthcare Initiative

Residents who benefited from the outreach expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman and the IBLCDA administration for bringing free medical services directly to their community.

For beneficiaries, the value of the programme extended beyond the treatment received on the day.

The screenings provided residents with an opportunity to check important aspects of their health, while those requiring additional attention were identified and referred for further care.

The initiative therefore served both as a treatment programme and an avenue for promoting early detection, preventive healthcare and health awareness.

More Communities to Benefit

The IBLCDA administration reaffirmed its commitment to taking the Free Optimal Wellness Outreach to more communities across the LCDA.

The council said the programme forms part of its broader effort to improve access to healthcare and raise the standard of living of residents under the GLORY Agenda.

For residents of Elepe, the Saturday outreach brought something as fundamental as healthcare closer to their homes.

And for the council administration, the message was equally clear: community development is not only about roads and infrastructure; it is also about ensuring that the people have access to the basic healthcare they need to live healthier and more productive lives.
