Operation Kosaye: Sanwo-Olu Applauds Police, Urges Residents to Support Security Efforts
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended security agencies for what he described as the ongoing “massive onslaught” against criminal elements across Lagos and neighbouring Ogun State under the ongoing Operation Kosaye.
The coordinated security operation, jointly carried out by the Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands, has so far resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the killing of four suspected kidnappers during an exchange of gunfire, and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition.
Reacting to the development, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the commitment of security personnel and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to sustain efforts aimed at protecting lives and property.
“We will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our state is safe and secure for residents and visitors,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun—through whose directive the operation is being coordinated under operational leadership—and acknowledged the collaboration between the Lagos and Ogun State governments in tackling insecurity.
“We appreciate the huge efforts of the police and the cooperation of our neighbours in Ogun State. This is the way it should be,” he added.
Operation Kosaye, which means “no space for criminals,” is a renewed security initiative targeted at dismantling kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery gangs and other violent criminal networks operating within the Southwest.
As part of the operation, security operatives have intensified combing of forests and remote areas along the Lagos-Ogun border, particularly the J3/J4 axis of Ogbere in Ogun State, to flush out criminal hideouts and prevent cross-border crimes.
Police authorities said the operation is intelligence-driven and forms part of sustained efforts to ensure there is no safe haven for kidnappers and other criminal elements.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also appealed to residents of Lagos to continue providing useful information that would assist security agencies in identifying criminal hideouts and preventing crime.
He reiterated that the Lagos State Government would continue supporting law enforcement agencies through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to ensure they remain adequately equipped and motivated to carry out their duties effectively.
