Mr. Gbenga Omotoso is on the list of 39 commissioner nominees that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu submitted to the state house of assembly.
After the dissolution of the state Executive Council a few days to the inauguration of the governor, Omotoso said that different ideas of how he could relieve his stress flew into his brain.
On his Facebook Wall, the former Editor at the Nation Newspaper said he thought of going back to the newsroom among others things.
According to him, having serviced the state for four good years, he would need rest that would still keep his knowledge and skills.
I refuse to be rusty, he wrote on his wall, adding that since the cabinet dissolution his schedule had changed.
As he put it, “Since the dissolution of the Lagos State Exco, my schedule has changed.
What do I do? Return to the newsroom? Join the army of chefs battling to shove Chef Baci off the Guinness Book of World Records? Simply catch up on lost sleeping hours?., This was a a period Baci was making wave to win GBWR.
However Omotoso said that a fellow advised him that joining the would-be spectators of the aborted Kiss-a-thon in Ekiti could be enough relaxation for him instead of immersing himself in the newsroom stress again.
As he put it,”A fellow who has been cautioned several times to be of good behavior – he is fond of telling adventurous stories that are salacious, bothering on concupiscence and sexual peccadillos of celebrities – counseled that I should join the long queue of would-be spectators of the kiss-a-thon that was in the works in Ekiti, the one the government stopped suddenly, causing the exhilarated organizers and would-be fans untold agony- I learnt. Of course, I was furious in my rejection of such puerile suggestion.
Another, who is also a purveyor of such pesky stories, suggested that I should join the woman who vowed to do the longest ever massage, but collapsed after a few hours. Of course, I parried that too.”
What then should I do? Hit the golf course? I haven’t played golf for ages; leave golf for a month, golf leaves you for a year. What then should I do? Swimming? Great idea for checking my bulging tummy, but where will I find a decent pool?
What should I do?”
Omotoso would finally settle down with table tennis and would only enjoy it for a few weeks as Sanwo-Olu listed him among the commissioner nominees.
He said, “Then it hit me that I could simply return to my good old game, the best family game anyone can play. Off to the table tennis hall I went.
Here I am, dear friends. I refuse to be rusty.”
