The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida, has fired up Team Nigeria athletes with a bold charge to dominate the medal table at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Kida urged the Nigerian contingent to seize the moment and deliver outstanding performances on the global stage.

Kida said that the level of preparation and support provided leaves no room for anything less than excellence.

“You are the pride of the most resilient nation on earth,” Kida declared.

“When you step onto the track, the court, the platform, or the ring in Glasgow, you must compete with the heart of a lion. We go into tournaments to dominate, conquer, and win.”

The NBBF boss rallied the athletes by reminding them of the responsibility they carry, representing over 200 million Nigerians.

He reserved special praise for the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), commending Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade for their revolutionary, athlete-centred approach.

Kida highlighted the world-class facilities and early acclimatisation in Scotland as well as the unprecedented welfare and incentive packages, as game-changers that have eliminated traditional excuses for poor performance.

“The National Sports Commission, under the leadership of Dikko and Olopade, has completely rewritten the playbook for international tournaments operation,” he said.

“By prioritising athlete welfare and securing elite training environments, they have effectively stripped away every excuse for failure. The NSC has done the heavy lifting. Now, the athletes must deliver the knockout blows.”

Kida expressed strong confidence that the combination of thorough preparation and robust support will enable Team Nigeria to achieve historic success at the Commonwealth Games.
