Man arrested for stealing bag of rice, wrappers

A street market security guard, Keke Toluwani has been nabbed and remanded in prison for the theft of two wrapper cloths reported to be worth N6,000 and a bag of rice in an attempt to please his wife who accused him of failing on his family obligations.

The 40 year old suspect, under pressure from his wife’s claim who enjoined him to get her wrappers in order to pacify her was said to have invaded two shops belonging to Mrs Shonde Kudirat and Ogunleye Yemisi at Alimosho, carting away with a bag of rice and wrappers.

However, Toluwani was seen leaving the premises where he committed the act and was given a chase by the residents of the area and was apprehended.

The owners of the stolen items, who reported the matter to the pool claimed that the goods were worth N176,000.

Toluwani was later charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for stealing.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector G. Simon did not oppose his being granted bail. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Kayode Layeni granted Toluwani bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 6th August, 2018.
