LASUSTECH Lecturers Demand Answers Over Unpaid August Salaries

Academic staff at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have expressed growing frustration over the non-payment of their August salaries, accusing the university management of withholding the funds without clear justification.
Several lecturers who spoke on condition of anonymity said they had yet to receive their pay even as the month drew to a close. They claimed the decision was taken unilaterally by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, and alleged that the Lagos State Government had not issued any directive to freeze salaries.
The lecturers pointed out that their counterparts at other state-owned institutions, including Lagos State University and Lagos State University of Education, had already been paid. This, they noted, occurred despite ongoing industrial action by non-academic staff at those campuses. At LASUSTECH, they stressed, academic staff are not on strike.
“We are not on strike, yet our salaries have been withheld,” one lecturer said. “Other state universities have paid their staff. There is no instruction from the state government to stop our pay.”
University management has rejected the suggestion of deliberate delay. The Director of Information, Lanre Kuye, stated that the lecturers would be paid once the ongoing strike by non-academic staff is suspended. He offered no further details on the timeline or the specific administrative processes involved.
The dispute has left many teaching staff facing personal financial pressure at a time when household costs remain high. For a relatively young institution still building its academic reputation, prolonged uncertainty over salaries risks affecting morale and the smooth running of academic programmes.
As the stand-off continues, both the lecturers and the wider university community await clearer communication from management and, if necessary, intervention from the state government to resolve the impasse and restore normal payment schedules.
