The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to motorists who do not have number plates or have covered plate numbers on their vehicles.

The government considers this a violation of the state’s Transport Reform Law and is taking steps to enforce the regulations.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized that driving without proper number plates not only goes against traffic laws but also poses a threat to public safety.

He explained that it hampers law enforcement efforts and makes it difficult to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities.

Mr. Osiyemi stressed the importance of displaying valid and unobstructed number plates in compliance with the law.

Those who fail to comply will face strict penalties, including fines and the potential impoundment of their vehicles.

Quoting section 16 of the TSRL 2018, the Transportation Commissioner reiterated that, ‘a person, who drives a vehicle that is not registered, or does not have affixed identification mark in the prescribed manner, commits an offence’.

While urging voluntary compliance, the Transportation Commissioner reminded Motorists to steadfastly adhere to the State’s traffic rules and regulations, assuring the public that the State Government remains unwavering in its commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all road users.
