The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has organized a training program for youths on a specialized ICT Program.
According to Ministry, the initiative which was convened in collaboration with Mac Tay Consulting Limited, will train 200 youths on high-tech proficiency and employability in five divisions in the state.
The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, stated that the exercise is aimed to close the digital skills gap and also boost participants’ employability.
Ajigbotafe said, “The ICT training will equip the youth with the skills needed to compete in the 21st-century competitive market and also bridge their skill gap in Information Communication Technology.
“The training marks a significant step in the quest by the State Government to empower the youth and foster a vibrant economy in the State. It is also an integral part of Lagos State’s broader vision to build a digitally inclusive and economically empowered society and also in tandem with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration.
He added, “The jet age is fast growing with the use of hi-tech, which has contributed significantly to our day-to-day operational activities.
“It is pertinent to equip the youth with specialised technology skills to foster creativity and innovation at workplace and homes as well as to drive the economic growth of the State.
“The ICT training will create job opportunities for the youths.”
Ajigbotafe revealed the schedule of the program saying, “The duration of the specialized ICT training is four months, commencing in October 2024 and concluding in January 2025.
“The sessions will be held three times a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm to ensure that participants receive comprehensive, hands-on training.
On the benefits of the program, the Commisioner said, “Upon completion, participants will earn global recognized certifications that meet international standards. The certification, including industry credentials like Information Technology Specialist – Data Analyst and Adobe certified Professional – Web Authoring using Adobe Dreamweaver will provide participants with competitive qualifications, making them attractive to employers and enabling them to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
On what the beneficiaries need to do, the Commisioner said, “I advice the trainees to utilize the opportunity offered by the programme to improve their status in life, revealing that the training will cover important areas like Data Science and Full Stack Web Development.
