The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Demola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Oba Tijani Akinloye.
The incident occurred on Monday, along Chevron Drive in the Lekki area of Lagos State, sparking fear and leading to the desertion of the community.
According to a notice issued by the management of a nearby estate, residents have been advised to steer clear of the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas for their safety.
The notice stated, “This is to notify all residents that Ajiran (Agungi) king’s son was assassinated today along Chevron Drive (close to Ebeano Supermarket) this morning.”
The assassination has prompted heightened security measures, with some residents expressing concerns for their safety. A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity mentioned that she would not be going to work on Tuesday, citing the gravity of the situation.
“It’s a daylight assassination. I’m not going to work again until Wednesday. Although they’ve deployed some vigilante guys around the area,” she said.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the killing, which took place around 12:30 pm.
According to Hundeyin, a distress call was received by the local police station reporting an attack on a man driving a black Toyota Corolla near the Bourdillon Court Estate gate on Chevron Drive.
The victim, later identified as 50-year-old Demola Akinloye, was ambushed by four armed men in a white minibus who shot and stabbed him to death.
The police have since visited the crime scene, where one expended cartridge was recovered. Akinloye’s body has been transported to a morgue in Ajah for preservation and autopsy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for further investigation.
