As economic pressures tighten their grip on households, Lagos Food Bank Initiative is scaling up its fight against hunger with a bold, expanded outreach campaign targeting the city’s most vulnerable communities.

Widely regarded as Nigeria’s largest food bank, the organisation is deepening its impact through intensified food distribution and nutrition-focused programmes designed to reach children, pregnant women, the elderly, and low-income families who continue to bear the brunt of rising food costs.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Food Bank has evolved into a lifeline for millions, redistributing surplus food and essential supplies while delivering structured interventions that tackle both hunger and malnutrition. Its growing footprint now spans hundreds of communities, with millions of meals already provided to underserved populations across the country.

The renewed campaign comes at a critical time, as inflation and the soaring cost of living push more families toward food insecurity. In response, the organisation is expanding grassroots initiatives that go beyond emergency relief—strengthening school feeding efforts, maternal nutrition support, and direct household food assistance.

Programmes such as the Nutritious Meal Plan Intervention (NUMEPLAN) and EDUFOOD are at the heart of this strategy, addressing child nutrition and education simultaneously by ensuring that vulnerable children receive meals that support both health and learning outcomes.

But the approach is not just about immediate relief. The Food Bank is also investing in long-term resilience through urban farming projects, job placement initiatives, and collaborations with local partners—efforts aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and building sustainable food systems within communities.

With growing support from volunteers, corporate organisations, and development partners, the initiative continues to expand its reach, aligning its mission with global hunger eradication goals and pushing toward a future where access to nutritious food is not a privilege but a guarantee.

As the campaign gathers pace, stakeholders stress that sustained collaboration and increased funding will be vital in confronting the deepening hunger challenge and ensuring that no Lagos resident is left behind.
