A public notice by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission ( LASIEC) to be published soon is expected to fix July 24 this year as the election date for Lagoe State local government polls.

Authoritative sources confirmed to Echonews last night that the notice will be published today in compliance with the law stipulating that the time-table for the election must be published 90 days before the polls.

The LASIEC is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for the polls.

It began with a tour of local governments to sensitise the functionaries to the need to round off towards the exit date and also furnish the offices of the electoral officials.

This was followed by the dispatch of non-sensitive materials to the offices in.57 Council areas.

What further convinced doubters was the training held recently to review past performance and prepare officials for the task.

A source disclosed.

How key officials of the agency also countered the schemes of groups seeking to abort the continuity of the democratic process by agitating for the installation of Caretaker administrators.

Key LASIEC officials engaged the leaders of the ruling party on the need to hold the polls and keep the credibility of Lagoa State intact.

Still worried by the 11 percent voter turnout during the last polls held in 2017, LASIEC is trying to plug holes in logistics and mobilisation to ensure more voters turn out to vote.

It is hinging some of its hopes on the recent decongestion of polling booths by its federal counterpart, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

There were indications that the LASIEC has begun discussion on the procurement of materials for the election.
