Popular Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St. Janet, has reportedly died after a brief illness.
The veteran singer was said to have passed away on Saturday, bringing an end to a music career that spanned several decades and established her as one of the most recognised female voices in Nigeria’s Juju music scene.
As of the time of filing this report, her family and management had yet to issue an official statement confirming the cause of her death or announcing funeral arrangements.
St. Janet rose to prominence with her energetic live performances, bold stage presence and indigenous Yoruba sound, earning a loyal fan base across the South-West and beyond.
She began her musical journey in a church choir before transitioning into Juju music, where she became known for blending traditional Yoruba rhythms with socially themed and often provocative lyrics rooted in Yoruba oral traditions.
Throughout her career, she remained one of the most distinctive female figures in indigenous Nigerian music, performing at numerous parties, concerts and cultural events.
