Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has admitted that he once looked down on YouTube movies, joking that he might have struggled financially if he had maintained that attitude.

The actor shared his reflection in a post on X, acknowledging how his perception of productions made for the video-sharing platform has changed.

“Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now,” he wrote.

His comment has sparked conversations about the growing acceptance of YouTube movies in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with actors and filmmakers increasingly exploring the platform for income and access to wider audiences.

Egbuson, who has featured in YouTube movie productions, has expanded his presence beyond traditional cinema releases and mainstream streaming platforms.

For years, some actors and filmmakers have placed greater emphasis on cinema releases and major streaming services, often viewing them as more prestigious or financially rewarding than films released directly on YouTube.

However, the popularity of online films has created another distribution channel for Nigerian filmmakers, allowing them to reach audiences directly and generate revenue from digital content.

The shift has also gathered momentum amid changes in the operations of international streaming platforms, which have affected opportunities for some local productions.

Egbuson’s remarks reflect how changing industry realities and the need for financial sustainability are encouraging entertainers to reconsider opportunities they might previously have overlooked.
