How I Want to Be Remembered — Sanwo-Olu’s Wife

Lagos First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has said she wants to be remembered for building the capacity of women and creating opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to their families and society.

Sanwo-Olu, wife of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Chairperson of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), stated this on Thursday at a pre-event press conference ahead of the 26th National Women’s Conference in Lagos.

Responding to a question on how she would like to be remembered as she approaches the end of her tenure as COWLSO convener, the medical doctor said her greatest aspiration was to have positively impacted women across different spheres of life.

“I want to be remembered for human capacity building, especially in women. I want to be remembered as one who impacted women in various spheres, as a leader who lifted my fellow sisters up,” she said.

She said investment in women had a multiplier effect, stressing that empowering women goes beyond individual advancement to strengthening families and communities.

Reflecting on her tenure, Sanwo-Olu described the journey as “educative and interesting,” noting that COWLSO had provided a platform for human capacity development and community engagement over the years.

She said she was particularly proud of her efforts to promote ethical compliance in the health and education sectors and strengthen connections between the organisation and communities.

“As a trained medical doctor, I am glad and proud that I ensured ethical compliance in the health and education sector. I tried my possible best to connect the dots at community level. The journey so far has been educative and interesting,” she said.

The COWLSO convener urged her successor to study the history and evolution of the organisation, preserve its values and build stronger relationships with similar organisations across Nigeria.

She also advised her successor to maintain an open mind, listen to members and remain connected to the communities the organisation serves.
The 26th National Women’s Conference, themed “Anchored in Purpose: Be the Blueprint,” is scheduled to hold from October 26 to 28, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu said the conference would be significant as the 26th edition and the eighth and final conference under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

She disclosed that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, had been invited as Special Guests of Honour for the opening and closing ceremonies respectively.

The press conference, held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, was attended by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; wife of the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Oyinlola Agoro; Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile; and other government officials and COWLSO members.

The event also provided an opportunity for COWLSO members to celebrate Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, who marked her birthday on October 7.

The 2026 conference is expected to bring together women from different sectors for discussions on purpose, leadership, personal development, capacity building and community impact.
