Google Raises Monthly Fee for 200GB Cloud Storage Plan In Nigeria

Google has made plans to increase the monthly subscription cost of its Google One 200GB Standard plan in Nigeria from ₦2,900 to ₦4,400, effective 22 September 2026.

The company informed subscribers by email that the revised rate, representing an approximate 51.7 per cent rise, will apply automatically at the next billing cycle unless the subscription is cancelled. Existing users will retain their full storage capacity and all membership benefits, with no disruption to data stored across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

The adjustment forms part of Google’s ongoing pricing reviews aimed at sustaining the reliability, security and continued development of its global cloud infrastructure amid elevated operational costs and currency pressures in selected markets.

Google continues to play a notable role in Nigeria’s digital economy. Earlier assessments indicated that the company’s products and services generated an estimated $1.8 billion in economic activity, while projections suggest artificial intelligence technologies, an area of active Google investment, could contribute up to $15 billion annually to the Nigerian economy by 2030. Recent commitments include substantial grants for AI talent development, free premium AI access for students, and skills programmes designed to strengthen local digital capacity.

These efforts support broader national objectives to expand cloud adoption and enhance Nigeria’s position as a regional digital services hub.
