Four Arraigned For Stealing Container Of Food Items Worth N150m

A gang of four men has been arraigned for allegely stealing a 40ft container loaded with food items worth N150 million.

The quartet was arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and possession of stolen property.

The accused: Tunde Yusuf, 49; Ikechukwu Joseph, 52; Adeboye Bakare, 51; and Yinka Daniel, 34, however, pleaded not guilty.

However, the prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikare, told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences on February 25 at Ayobo area of Lagos.

Ikare said that the offenders stole the container with the items belonging to one  Abimbola Lambo, hence, contravening sections 287(7) and (8) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendants N2 million bail each and two sureties each in like sum.

Owolabi added that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of three years’ tax payments to the state government.

He adjourned the case until June 3.
