Merit Awards are not only symbolic to reward and recognize worthwhile
services but are also genuine ways of promoting merit and
excellence,which is a regular ceremony in the calendar of the Lagos State Education District VI.
It was against this backdrop that Education District VI, covering Ikeja ,Mushin and Oshodi -lsolo celebrated their 11th annual Merit Award 2016 on
14th June,2017 at NUT Pavilion,CBD,Alausa,Ikeja.
Tutor General permanent secretary (TG/PS)Mrs.Funmilayo Onadipe,in her
welcome address,appreciated the productive effort of the staff towards serving Education District VI .
She said the event would motivate the staff to be more devoted to the improvement of standards.
Commending the effort of the recipients, Mrs. Onadipe urged them not to relent on their oars because, in Lagos state, reward for
hard work is more hard work.
She charged those yet to receive awards to buckle up as there are still more opportunities to prove their excellence.
The Tutor-General reserved her most appreciative praises for the students for doing the district proud.
Onadipe praised them for their brilliance,creativity and excellence by coming out in flying colours during examinations,bringing home trophies when engaged in competitions.
“This shows a bright future in Lagos state” she said.
The mother of the day, the member of Lagos state House of Assembly representing Mushin
constituency 1,Hon.Adefunmilayo Tejuosho,commended His
excellency,Ambode for implementing the laws made by the Houses of
Assembly and also applauded Mrs.Onadipe over the staff award which
shows hard work in the district.
.To the teachers, Hon.Tejuosho urged
them to inculcate the habit of teaching Yoruba language to the
students because of its potency to drives message home.
The distinguished chairman of the day,House Committee chairman on
Education,Hon.Lanre Ogunyemi,spoke on the effort of Ambode towards
education which has improved the the profession effectively,saying,”as
far as this country is. concerned,Lagos state has the best teaching
personnel because they are exposed to the best training you can ever
have ”
Other TG/PS who graced the awards are-District I
TG,Dr.olufolayimika Ayandele,District III TG,Mrs. Margaret
Solarin,District IV TG,Mrs.Lola Are-Adegbite and District V
TG,Mrs.Adekanye.
According to Mr. Adewunmi Paul Olalekan of Opebi jnr.gram.school who
received special award of physically challenged.In his comment,he
said”I was not employed blind,it was during the course of my service
that I had glaucoma which led to my blindness.I thank governor Ambode
for retaining me in service despite my handicap,as an assistant
director in the school,I teach Agricultural practicals and also
conduct the assembly and this is my 18th year in service”.
Olalekan urged other physically challenged persons to exhibit ability
in disability in developing the world around them.
