Driver’s Assistant Sustains Serious Head, Chest Injuries In Lagos Truck Crash
Lagos State Government emergency responders have rescued 2 people injured after a 20-foot container truck overturned following a collision with another truck at New Garage, along Ikorodu Road in Ojota, Lagos.
The container-laden truck, with registration number SUL 460 ZY, was reportedly carrying 3 people when it collided with a flat-body truck whose driver allegedly fled the scene.
The impact caused the container truck to overturn, obstructing about half of the carriageway and disrupting traffic along the busy road.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.
He said the collision also damaged a high-tension electricity pole, causing power cables to fall across the road and creating additional danger for motorists, pedestrians and emergency responders.
According to him, the driver’s assistant sustained serious head and chest injuries, alongside multiple bruises, while the driver suffered injuries to his mouth and shoulder.
LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service administered first aid and advanced medical care to the victims at the scene before further treatment.
Personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were also deployed to manage traffic and support the rescue operation, while Ikeja Electric officials secured the fallen electricity cables.
Authorities subsequently commenced efforts to remove the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow along the affected section of Ikorodu Road.
